Photo Shoot

We have this amazing photographer in our house. He goes by the names Bernie, Matt and Dadda. The only downfall for having this fantastic photographer is that we have a hard time booking ourselves in our busy schedule!

Getting all the equipment out at just the right time when the boys are in the mood to be photograph doesn’t always happen.

Apparently neither of them wanted to be photographed together!

So this photo shoot was a week late for Maddox’ 1 month shots. Maddox was fussy and only wanted to be held. Mark liked being on the table, but DID not want to get close to his brother.

"Mark, you want to take a picture with your brother?"

This is the response we get!

I thought I would share some of the more humorous shots that captured the moment. The upside to having this photographer in house is that it didn’t cost us a dime and we can always try again later!

Maddox's funny face. Guess he didn't want to pose next to that bear.

I was hoping to get a sweet shot of him a cuddled up. Instead he is showing off how well he holds his head up. Too bad he was very upset with me for putting him there!

Thank You Grandma!

My generous mother donated almost two weeks of her life to our growing family.  Arriving the day before our induction in order to take good care of Mark while we headed to the hospital, only to leave when Maddox was 11 days old. Lucky for us, Mom is a teacher and has some time off for summer break.

I was and still am nervous about the transition from one child to two. Not that my little angels would ever purposely give me a hard time!! ;) But a three year old and a newborn don’t seem to understand how to time their crying spells.

It was SO nice to have an extra set of hands around the house. Mom cooked, cleaned and most importantly helped take care of her grand babies.  She would take my big boy outside to play so I could take care of the little baby in the air condition. She would hold the baby so I could take care of the big boy. She took care of one or both of the boys so I could take naps. She would also do laundry, run errands and even projects around the house.

I couldn’t ask for anything more! THANK YOU MOM! I know it is hard for you to be 3.5 hours away from these two precious boys. We really appreciate all the help and also owe a big THANK YOU to Papa for letting us borrow Grandma from you! I know you missed her!

Grandma & Maddox hanging out on the back porch

Grandma & Mark are BOTH talking to Papa on their phones! Mark was using his play phone and telling us he was talking to Papa. So Grandma calls Papa on her real phone for Mark to talk to. He wanted no part of using the real phone and talking to the real Papa. Apparently pretending to talk to Papa is more fun!

Maddox Burnett is here!

Maddox James Burnett was born at 6:03 pm July 6.  He weighed in at 8 lbs 7 oz and measured 20″ long.   Maddox and mom are doing great we should be home Thursday.  Thanks to everyone for the thoughts and prayers.  We can’t wait to introduce you to the new guy.

A Great Weekend!

We had a great weekend! Full of good food, friends and fun! All to help us celebrate and prepare for the arrival of Baby Boy #2!!! I will let the pictures do the talking. We feel truly SO blessed to have such loving, supportive friends and family!

Mimi and Grandma!

Mark loves Papa and Grandma!

We had such a good weekend, Mark was worn out. Fell asleep siting up 6:30 Sunday night!

I did miss some people in all my picture taking. I didn’t post all of the pictures either. Just a little snapshot of our weekend.

Happy Mother’s Day!

I can’t say enough about the wonderful mother’s surrounding us in our lives! Mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters and friends. We had a great weekend visiting with my family and friends in Murray.

Baby Predictions????

We had a checkup today and everything went great. Heart beat was good, in the 140s and still no weight gain! Yeah!

Our next appointment is February 25th and we will find out the SEX of the baby!!!  I am sooo excited to find out! I think I might even more excited than I was with Mark! I guess it’s because I already know how wonderful it is to be a mom that I can’t wait to start day dreaming about a mother of two boys or a boy and a girl!

Does anyone have a prediction?? I have heard a few! Let’s hear them! Only 3 weeks until we find out!!!

My prediction: I can’t really tell. I change day to day. Today I am thinking girl because I am STILL having a lot of morning sickness. I feel like it’s the baby girl’s way of saying, “Get ready Momma! I’m going to be soooo different than my brother!!!!”

I have asked MANY Momma’s who have had two or more children: ‘Were your pregnancies different for different sexes? Or for those who have two of the same sex—were your pregnancies the same?’ My research has NOT given me anything to go with. CONCLUSION: Everyone is different! There is no way to tell!

Reasons for wanting a boy:

  1. Mark would LOVE to have a brother. He is all boy. How much fun would that be to have another boy to throw dirt clods with?
  2. He is surrounded by girls!! My sister has three girls and Mark is the only boy at our office childcare.
  3. These siblings will be sharing a room. So logistically it makes more sense for it to be two boys. I won’t have to change anything. Room colors, sheets, blankets, toys genre, etc.
  4. Selfishly it would be easier on the clothes. These boys will be born in the same season, so I have a TON of clothes already!
  5. I know what to do with a boy. I am more of a tomboy myself.  SO being the mother of a boy hasn’t been too much of a stretch for me.

Reasons for wanting a girl:

  1. It would be nice to have something a little different. One of each sex would make the teams even in the Burnett household!
  2. CLOTHES! I mean really! As hard as I have tried, girl’s clothes are just better. I love all the accessories too! Hair bows, tights, cute shoes, etc.
  3. Girl stuff! Even though I am a little more of a tom boy I do like to do some girl activities. So it would be fun to have a daughter to get mani & pedi’s with! Lunch dates and a shopping partner!
  4. I know lots of cool chicks! So hopefully my daughter would be one of those and not too drama filled! :)
  5. There is something special between a father and daughter. That would be wonderful for Bernie!

Baby Mark & Momma, Mark is 1 day old here.

Nesting = Organization!

Nesting Instinct is defined by the Pregnancy Weekly website.  ‘Around the fifth month of pregnancy, the “nesting” instinct can set in. This is an uncontrollable urge to clean one’s house brought on by a desire to prepare a nest for the new baby, to tie up loose ends of old projects and to organize your world.’

I had this a little bit with Mark, but it was just to get his room ready. This time (3rd month mind you!)  I don’t have the urge to clean like the website suggests. I have a huge urge to ORGANIZE!!!  The thought of bringing another baby in this house makes me realize we have to clean out some of our junk!!!  Mark has so many toys and there are so many baby things of his that we never put away. If these two kids are going to share a room I better get my act together!!!

So with that being said I have made several trips to Lowe’s and WalMart trying to catch the sales on storage containers and I snagged a 9 Cube Organizer from ClosetMaid that I have been eying for a while. (Thanks for the heads up Tiffany!)

Mark and I had a very productive snow day this week. He put his new favorite phrase into good use. “I do, I do!” So of course I had to let him help me as much as he could. Check out the before and after pics.

Lots of books there overflowing his shelves and too many toys with no homes!

Those three green baskets are full of odds and ends and the old shelf fit into the closet.

Those three green fabric drawers are full of odds and ends and the old shelf fit into the closet.

I would love to buy another shelf that matches this one, push this 9 cube organizer down to the end of the wall and attach a 6 cube organizer next to it. Maybe in the future…..

Most of Mark’s baby stuff that was in his closet went upstairs to join the rest of the baby toy stash and his old dresser just barely fit into the closet. I am not sure how long that will last because he is getting to big! (i.e. His clothes hang longer than the shelf and the shelf is too tall.)

I am going to hang a bunch more pictures on the wall in white picture frames now that I have more wall space. That will make that whole wall look better.

Mark was a good little helper. He refused to get out his play Black & Decker tools to help me. He had to tap the shelf with the real hammer. I even let him hold the power drill and push the button to make it go. He was able to put in the little wooden pegs in the holes. He would get bored with the process (because I kept making him stop so I could read the directions) and here is a picture of what he did when I was boring him.

Just hanging out in the cubbies, reading a book.....

Just hanging out in the cubbyhole, reading a book. See all the clutter in the background! Geez! It was bad! All those toys have better homes now!

Next project: reorganizing Mark’s clothes, switches the sizes from the smaller file folder boxes into larger, more durable totes so they can stay in the basement.

New Year = New Baby!

Happy New Year everyone!!!!

As we prepared for the new year we try to do the normal things so we can have a fresh start. Cleaned our house, organize closets, tidy my desk at work, clean out my inbox, etc.

You always have high hopes of the new year to be a great one! But this year I have no doubt it will be an exciting one for the Burnett household! July 2010  Mark will become a big brother!!!!

We are 12 week along, finishing our first trimester! We broke the news to our families on Christmas! We put this Big Brother shirt on Mark and told everyone that Mark got a new shirt for Christmas. It was fun to sit back and watch their reactions!

Mark's No Face

Mark's No Face. We usually get this face after we ask Mark about his future brother or sister.

Poor Mark. He doesn’t have a clue why people are hooping and hollering over him and his new shirt. We keep trying to talk to Mark about have a baby brother or sister. He is consistent with the same answer. “NO!” I don’t think he even knows what he is saying no about! Maybe as my tummy gets larger he can start to understand.

We hope your 2010 is going to be just as wonderful as we hope ours to be!

Christmas Time!

We have had some fun the last few weeks filled with all the traditional Christmas Activities. Here are some highlights….

A very cold Christmas Parade in Shelbyville. Verdict is still out if Mark enjoyed that!

The normal Maddox’ tradition is to go bowling on Christmas Eve. Funny I know, but it is kind of fun to get out of the house and do something. But unfortunately for us the bowling alley was closed this year! So we had to get creative. We took advantage of the unseasonal weather and flew kites outside. (Super windy day!) My dad loves to fly kites, so we had a couple going! Ella really enjoyed herself!

Mark was not a fan of Santa this year.....:)

Doesn't Mark realize he won't be getting any presents with THIS attitude!

Santa insisted I sit on his knee so that we could get a picture. Mark at least tolerate him this way!

Mark was not even willing to sit on Santa’s lap this year. I kind of expected this. His terrible two’s attitude is in effect most days, so the little diva comes out in him and you just can’t do much to please him.

Santa was really nice and tried to talk to him about his trains, but Mark was a tough cookie to break. I think they made friends when it was over because Santa offered him a candy cane.

I hope you and yours had a fabulous holiday season!
