Sharing treats

We had a funny conversation the other day. Here is how it started.

Maddox starts to fuss. Mark is sitting on the other end of the couch eating his fruit snacks.

He says, “Momma, Baby hungry”

I’m laughing to myself, good insight Mark, “Do you think he wants some fruit snacks?”

Mark, ” Yes!”

Me, “Can he have one of YOUR fruit snacks?”

Mark, “NO!”

If Maddox only knew he had a good reason to be crying! I can just see this scenerio playing out again in the near future. Maddox will be crying, "Mark won't share his fruit snacks!"

Uh Oh, Maddox starts to slide, picture moment is over.....

Big brother starts to wig out because his brother is touching him! Mark's yelling, "OW!", Please...he is not hurting you! I think Mark was more worried about protecting his fruit snacks!

**I did explain to Mark that Maddox doesn’t have any teeth yet, so he can’t eat any fruit snacks. I thought I better try incase he gets any wise ideas and decides to actually share one day when I am not in the room!

Playtime

There are a few toys of Mark’s that he hasn’t seemed to want to let go. This safari jungle mat is one of them.

Mark seems to think there is room for the both of them!

"See!" Mark is trying to point out some things for Maddox to look at.

Mark is checking himself out in the mirror!

Maddox will start moving his arms and legs and it makes Mark scramble! He doesn't like it when the baby touches him! See him moving away from his arm?

Looks like little brother has already figured out to get big brother off his toy! Mark is working his way off the mat. As if Maddox has cooties or something!

**on a side note, Mark likes to “hold baby” as he says, but it seems to bother him if the baby initiates contact….not sure whats up with that…..any ideas?

Good Morning!

You know your going to have a good day when you wake up to this face!

7 AM and ready to go! This face makes you forget how many times he woke up the night before and how tired you are.

Who wouldn't be happy with a belly full of milk like his!

2 month update

  • Growing like a weed. Last week we visited the doctor, Maddox weighs in at a whopping 12 lbs and 12 ounces!

  • Starting to smile. I can say confidently now that he is truly smiling at me (or Daddy, or anyone who will talk to him) and it’s not just a smile because he passed some gas.
  • Holding his head up VERY well!
  • More independent. He doesn’t have to be held ALL the time! He is starting to be more content in his bouncy seat.
  • Had his first trip to Murray! While there he got loved on by the immediate family.

My nieces, Sarah 13, Abby 11, were oohing and awwing all over my sweet boy. (The best part of this pic--They did NOT know I was checking them out from afar!)

Uncle Aaron hanging out with Maddox. btw--this is the MOST comfortable I have seen my baby brother with a kiddos. So CUTE!

He also met one of mommy’s best friends, Amberly, and her newest addition! Audrey is exactly one month younger than Maddox.

  • Developed a case of reflux. :( So we have started some meds and adding rice cereal to the formula has helped.
  • We are on a consistent three hour feeding schedule.

Photo Shoot

We have this amazing photographer in our house. He goes by the names Bernie, Matt and Dadda. The only downfall for having this fantastic photographer is that we have a hard time booking ourselves in our busy schedule!

Getting all the equipment out at just the right time when the boys are in the mood to be photograph doesn’t always happen.

Apparently neither of them wanted to be photographed together!

So this photo shoot was a week late for Maddox’ 1 month shots. Maddox was fussy and only wanted to be held. Mark liked being on the table, but DID not want to get close to his brother.

"Mark, you want to take a picture with your brother?"

This is the response we get!

I thought I would share some of the more humorous shots that captured the moment. The upside to having this photographer in house is that it didn’t cost us a dime and we can always try again later!

Maddox's funny face. Guess he didn't want to pose next to that bear.

I was hoping to get a sweet shot of him a cuddled up. Instead he is showing off how well he holds his head up. Too bad he was very upset with me for putting him there!

1 Month Update

ONE MONTH UPDATE!!!

Maddox weighs 10 lbs!

He had his first cold. :( Big brother shared his runny nose and newborns are NO fun when congestion.

We are sleeping 2-3 hours consecutively. But since being congested, it’s less than that at times. :(

He still likes to sleep on his tummy. This makes the congestion issue worse as it tries to drain out and he starts that nasty rattling sound when he sleeps—poor guy!

He drinks 4 oz at time, sometimes more!  We are still nursing, but at times we supplement with formula. I think he is eating more than I am producing.

Big Brother Mark is showing more interest in his little brother. Still not much, but a little more. He likes to count his toes and fingers. He will usually throw diapers away or hand me things. We keep praising him for being a “Big Helper” and “Good Big Brother” hoping that will sink in. We will see!

Big Brother Mark!

PS: So we are technically we are a late on our 1  month update.  Maddox is 7 weeks old…but that’s how it rolls in this house at the moment.

Coexisting

Mark and Maddox are currently coexisting.

We think that Mark has accepted that this new baby is here to stay. But he isn’t too concerned about him.

This picture sums up how Mark has handled the new addition. Not love, not hate...just hanging out. So far my boys are pretty even kill, nobody's world has been too rocked.

Every once in a while we catch a cute moment of Mark wanting to hold his brother or touch his head.  I know it won’t be long before they are best friends!

Thank You Grandma!

My generous mother donated almost two weeks of her life to our growing family.  Arriving the day before our induction in order to take good care of Mark while we headed to the hospital, only to leave when Maddox was 11 days old. Lucky for us, Mom is a teacher and has some time off for summer break.

I was and still am nervous about the transition from one child to two. Not that my little angels would ever purposely give me a hard time!! ;) But a three year old and a newborn don’t seem to understand how to time their crying spells.

It was SO nice to have an extra set of hands around the house. Mom cooked, cleaned and most importantly helped take care of her grand babies.  She would take my big boy outside to play so I could take care of the little baby in the air condition. She would hold the baby so I could take care of the big boy. She took care of one or both of the boys so I could take naps. She would also do laundry, run errands and even projects around the house.

I couldn’t ask for anything more! THANK YOU MOM! I know it is hard for you to be 3.5 hours away from these two precious boys. We really appreciate all the help and also owe a big THANK YOU to Papa for letting us borrow Grandma from you! I know you missed her!

Grandma & Maddox hanging out on the back porch

Grandma & Mark are BOTH talking to Papa on their phones! Mark was using his play phone and telling us he was talking to Papa. So Grandma calls Papa on her real phone for Mark to talk to. He wanted no part of using the real phone and talking to the real Papa. Apparently pretending to talk to Papa is more fun!

1 Week Old!

Wow! Time flies! We survived the first week of the newborn stage!

Lucky for me, my mom has been here helping.

This week has been full of diaper changes, sleep deprivation, sore nipples and lots of visitors!

It’s so true how different each child is. So far here are some of the differences between my two boys at this stage .

Maddox:

1. loves to be swaddled, cuddled and held close.

2. has latched on to breast feeding!

3. has regular bowel movements.

4. LOVES to sleep on his belly.( This makes mom and and dad nervous but it’s a fact)

5. doesn’t keep his eyes open much. (I do see them a little more of them each day.)

Mark

1. did NOT like to be swaddled. He could lay independently on his bouncy seat very happily.

2. never did figure out breast feeding.

3. still has trouble with BMs, poor guy, I need to invest in stock in Miralax!

4. Slept just fine on his back. Actually slept most of his first few weeks in the bouncy seat or his car seat.

5. had his eye wide open from the first minute!

Here are some new pictures:

Big Brother Mark

We are home and everyone is making the adjustment nicely.

Lots of people have been asking how Mark is doing with his new baby brother. Here are a few pictures for your enjoyment, you be the judge!

4 out 5 guys were happy!!! :)
